Multi-award winning* Beats for a Cure is back to bring together DJs and streamers from all around the world to unite for one cause… the fight against cancer.
Beats for a Cure has been decades in the making, but just recently realized in 2020. Founder and CEO, Darryl “DJ D-Man" East has been contributing to breast cancer funds ever since his mother was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2001. Whether it was donating time, money or support, Darryl contributed in some form or fashion to show his mother's support. Even after her passing in 2010, he continued his fight to help find a cure, so that others could live long healthy lives.
When the pandemic happened in 2020, it forced all of us to stay isolated indoors which would have made it difficult to volunteer in October. Ten years earlier Darryl was a part-time DJ but had gone into retirement. But in April of 2020 he was introduced to the streaming platform, Twitch.tv. Seeing the tremendous community support inspired him and he came out of retirement. After watching a DJ stream for 24 hours for cancer, gave him the idea to DJ on Twitch and hopefully raise a couple of hundred dollars. The support from other DJs wanting to be involved grew the single person stream into a weekend long event with 20+ DJs from around the world! So, in October of 2020, Beats for a Cure was created and raised over $20,000 in its first year. Each year the number of DJs grew and so did the donations. As of Beats for a Cure ‘24, we have raised over to $225,000 in 5 years!
On July 5, 2024, Beats for a Cure has become a recognized non-profit (501(c)(3)) organization in the state of Ohio. With the continued support of the community, Beats for a Cure will continue to grow and help save lives.
